Addiction
Addiction is a chronic and complex condition characterized by compulsive engagement in substance use or behaviors despite adverse consequences. It disrupts brain function, affecting reward, motivation, and memory. Types include:
- Substance Addiction: Includes alcohol, drugs (opioids, stimulants, etc.), and nicotine dependency. Symptoms may include cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and inability to control usage.
- Behavioral Addiction: Non-substance-related activities like gambling, internet use, and shopping can also become addictive.
