Neurotic Disorders
Neurotic disorders are characterized by chronic distress and emotional instability without losing touch with reality. These conditions often include excessive worry, fear, or avoidance behaviors. Examples include:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Persistent and excessive worry about various aspects of life, often accompanied by physical symptoms like restlessness and fatigue.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety.
- Phobias: Intense and irrational fears of specific objects, activities, or situations that lead to avoidance behaviors.
